Milestone Canine Consulting had been quietly brewing since the moment Claire met Miles. Miles, a dachshund with a beautiful soul, deep knowing, and complex emotional life, taught Claire how to love. The two were deeply connected physically and emotionally—Miles became Claire’s constant companion. Miles passed away at 15 years old in 2020 but he lives on in everything Claire does. Milestone Canine Consulting is inspired by him and all he taught Claire about dogs, love, trust, behavior, healing, and connection. Milestones are moments and often we don’t realize their significance until they change everything. Through Claire’s patient and intuitive coaching, you will learn to be present for them all.

Claire grew up in the woods of rural Wisconsin with her family and her dogs. Her education about dogs began then, spending days outside with her canine friends and snuggling with them at night. She began to become aware of their emotional intelligence then and her understanding has grown leaps and bounds since then.
After studying animal science at the University of Minnesota for a few semesters, she switched majors and graduated in 2009 with a BA in Studies in Cinema and Media Culture. During this time she also worked as a dog handler and manager at a high-volume dog daycare, a veterinary assistant, and a caregiver at the local animal shelter. The most informative part of this time was her years of work as a foster for Underdog Rescue. She learned something from every dog who came to live in her home.
In 2014, she moved to Los Angeles and began working with Tully’s Training. In her years in Los Angeles, she worked full-time as a group/private trainer and consultant, helping hundreds of families and their pups to communicate and thrive. She moved to Seattle in 2018 and continued her work as a dog trainer and behavior counselor in her new city. In 2020, she got her CPDT-KA certification, as well as completing her certification as a Fear Free Professional. In 2022, she completed her Family Dog Mediation certification and is now a proud, practicing Family Dog Mediator. She also recently completed her Separation Anxiety Pro Behavior Consultant certification.
Claire enjoys writing and is a published author. You can find her writing on her blog, Tully’s Training, and Aggressivedog.com. She is currently writing a book—stay tuned!
Claire is also a certified yoga instructor, practicing the movements, breathwork, meditations, and philosophy, especially ahimsa, or non-harming. She uses her experience as a yogi to support her work with dogs and their humans.
The emotional lives of dogs are the most important thing to Claire. She enjoys helping fearful, anxious, and stressed-out dogs gain their confidence and feel more comfortable. As a Family Dog Mediator, she sees the “whole” dog, including learning, environment, genetics, and self. Her programs address all of these aspects of the dog, as well as the needs of their humans.
A modern approach
Rather than focusing on obedience, the milestone way is to address the emotional, mental, and physical needs of our dogs to build a better quality of life for them. Once these needs are met, the goal is to build and support a meaningful relationship between guardian and canine, based on mutual understanding and love. By staying current on the science behind behavior, learning, and ethology, we are able to bring a modern, holistic approach to the well-being of both dog and guardian.
